Attendance records were broken with over 3000 visitors attending Adventure Day 2009. Held on August 29th and hosted by the Fairwater plant, the day was a great success. The success was measured by the smiles and comments such as; “Great for young and old. We enjoyed ourselves. Hope you have this for many years!” and “Great family day!” Over 150 volunteers kept visitors busy at various activities and vice-versa! Thank you to all volunteers and associates who helped the day of, in preparation for, and with the clean-up. A couple of the comments received, “All very friendly and helpful (staff)” and “Well organized, a great family event. Hope to do it again” reflect directly upon those who helped make this day happen. New for Fairwater this year was the train! The Wisconsin and Southern provided vintage cars for a 20 minute train ride from the Fairwater plant through Fairwater and back. Three other new activities this year were Tunnel Golf, putting a golf ball in a 40 foot long and 10 foot in diameter tunnel; Create a Stockpile, which consisted of a small conveyor onto which kids were able to dump buckets of sand to create a mini-stockpile…which never did get very high as kids liked to play in their stockpile as well as build it; and Basketball, hoops were attached to pallets which were put onto forklifts. All the old favorites were kept as well, Badger Hill, sand sledding, the money hunt, operating mining equipment, haul truck pit tours, pet rock, colored sand, screening sand, sand castle area, rock throw, and fishing. The photo booth got a tech and go-green update – all pictures were loaded to the Adventure Day website and visitors were able to log-on from their own computers to view/download their pictures. On top of all the activities, the Fairwater Plant celebrated their 60th anniversary with a huge, fake cake and candy treats. The day culminated with a ski show performed by the Beaverland Must-Skis performed on White Sand Lake. Overall the day was a huge success and the Adventure Day Core team, Todd Huggins, Shelly Bernhagen, Marc Jackowski, Pam Leahy, Olivia Talma, Brianne Hess, Janell Seeliger and Crystal Hess would like to thank everyone for their help. The next Adventure Day is currently planned for 2011 in Taylor. |
