BMC is continually striving to enhance the ecological value of there land holdings. In this project, in union with the WDNR we filled an existing pond that had steep banks and little shoreline area and replace it with an enhanced pond stemming off the existing ditch to the north. The new pond was constructed with uneven and rolling bottom and an irregular shoreline to enhance the habitat for waterfowl. In addition, we created some ditch plugs to isolate existing pond structures and ensure the surface water would infiltrate through the wetland. An added benefit resulted as the filled pond area allowed the connection of two fields, which created a larger area of contiguous cropland.
